Course catalog description: Broad
principles of ecology on the organismic, the population, the community,
and the ecosystem level. Includes environmental factors, adaptations,
energy and material balance, succession and human ecology. Prerequisite:
Mathematics 108, Biology 200a,b and Chemistry 140a or 200 and
201.
Make up exams are not given. If you miss
a test for a reason that is justified and documented, ahead of
time, then the score for the next test will count for the missed
test. If you miss a test for an unacceptable reason, the score
for the next test will count less a 25% penalty. Acceptable reasons
are limited to documented medical reasons or documented family
reasons. A flat tire on your car driving back from out of town,
oversleeping or death of your room mates second cousin five times
removed do not count.
In-class assignments include unannounced
pop quizzes. Make ups for these are not available. The best 80%
of your scores from in-class assignments are retained.
Final grade decided upon 90, 80, 70, 60%
cutoffs for A, B, C, D, and F.
Plagiarism and cheating are not tolerated
and will be subject to a zero grade on the exam concerned, instant
F in the course, or other appropriate sanction.
